ADVANCED CHEMISTRY

a pair of comedies about love, lust & longevity

by Rich Orloff

(2 w., 1 m.)

ADVANCED CHEMISTRY proves that when it comes to sex, you're never old enough to know better.  This pair of award-winning one-act comedies looks at love and lust among the senior crowd.  The opening play, MOURNING GLORY, takes a lighthearted look at the situation, and the second play, GETTING LUCKY, digs into deeper and more intimate terrain.  The two plays are designed to be performed on the same set by the same trio of actors (an older man, an older woman, a woman in early 30's), allowing an opportunity for actors to show off both their comedic and dramatic abilities.

Winner             2002 Pickering Award for Playwriting Excellence

                       (under the title COMPANION PIECES)

MOURNING GLORY explores the question:  How long must one wait after someone dies before hitting on their spouse – especially if the spouse hopes you’ll make a move? MOURNING GLORY won the 2001 Civic Theatre New Play Contest.  (2 w., 1 m., approx. 40 min.)

GETTING LUCKY deals with an older couple who have been dating awhile and who hope to take their relationship further, physically and/or emotionally.   GETTING LUCKY won the 2004 New Voice Play Festival.  (2 w., 1 m., approx. 40 min.)

ADVANCED CHEMISTRY has had staged readings and workshops in New York, Oregon, Michigan and Las Vegas, but it has not yet been professionally produced.
